IT'S DONE

Well, tonight I can call my project officially complete.  I will have many pictures coming at you tomorrow, but I finished putting together the radiator, pump, and tubing and what not, and it's working out really great actually.  One thing: I've never wanted to wash my hands more in my life.

Good News!

On Monday, I received the last parts I need to finish up this project, other than the oil (I should be getting a call in the next day or two about this...).  Anyways, I received my pump, tubing and some hose clamps.

Pump Box:

Pump itself:

Stripping my old case for its standoffs...

...so I can prep the tray for use in the oil.

Here's what I was envisioning for pump/radiator placement.  I will need to make some sort of bracket or stand to securely hold the radiator.

My completely messy ping-pong table...

Time for the big test of my work: seeing if the acrylic box has any leaks in it.  My thinking is that if it can hold water successfully, it will probably be able to hold mineral oil no problem.
Getting ready for the test:

And with water in it.  I only filled it about an inch deep, because I encountered another difficulty.  It was very hard to move it, even with just a small amount of water in the case.  I am going to have to figure out a way to move this thing when it's completely full of oil.  What I'm thinking now for moving into the room for my presentation is to drain as much oil as possible, then just refill it once I'm getting set up.

Best news yet: It was completely water tight.  I made sure to get water onto each of the joints, and not a drop was spilled.  Very pleased.  Very excited.

So this is pretty much it until I get the oil in.  I need to get my paperwork in, including my narrative and such.

Till next time

Finally Did Work

FINALLY...well more like I finally got the the nerve to start putting together the box portion of my project.  I guess I must've been a little nervous having never done anything like this before, and only having one chance.  Anyways, here goes.

Ready to go

Wow is that angle deceiving...It's 90 degrees trust me

Starting to take shape

Have to let it set for 20 minutes before moving anything.

The four sides together.

Some small air bubbles...that's what happens with less than perfectly flat and smooth edges.  Oh well, should work I hope.

And done.

So I will let this bad boy continue to set for about 24-36 hours, then I'll try filling her up with water to see how it fairs.

In other news, my other package should be coming in tomorrow, which contains a pump, tubing, and some clamps for the tubing.  After that, all I need to wait on is getting oil, which also is on its way.

I'm excited.

New Stuff + Acrylic Work

I received a package in the mail today.  It came all the way from Oregon so I'm surprised it got here in 2 days, but whatever.

AHHHHH...(foam peanuts everywhere...)

Radiator

Barb fittings and screws

Radiator with fans installed

Fittings installed

I also began to prep the acrylic sheets for gluing.  This involved removing some of the protective covering.

All of the sheets ready to go.

I'm going to start gluing together all of these pieces now.  I'll take lots of pictures.

Quick Update

So I ordered the rest of the parts I need to finish this project.  I will be getting the first part of the order Monday hopefully, which will include the radiator, fans, and fittings.  The other part still has to ship, but includes the pump, tubing, and tubing clamps.

I'm going to start assembling the box portion tonight.

(Most busy weekend of the year coming up...)
